The paintings come from the sea, which is ever-changing, ever-constant. They are moody and dark, at the same time calm and peaceful. They capture the eternity, the lightness and darkness and all the emotions that can be evoked by nature in each of us.
Lily’s inspiration for this body of work began on her Artist Residency in Cornwall 2019.
“I have always been drawn to water and I have always loved the sea. I think it is a symbol for change…I love how it is always moving and it’s so powerful. The change in tides feel like a chance for the old to be washes away and then they bring in something new again.” Lily Rigby, ONCA Blog, 2019.
What The Water Gave Me was exhibited at Lily’s solo show at the ONCA Gallery, Brighton, November 2019.
